Our goal at Elk Run is to establish a long-term relationship with out puppy buyers based on friendship.  A friendship does not require a sales contract.   Puppy ownership is a significant investment in energy and time.  We are always available to assist our puppy owners because we succeed only if you succeed.

Below you will find information on planned Elk Run litters.  Elk Run only breeds one or two litters a year.   Therefore,  puppies are not always available.  It's recommended you contact us early, as there is usually a waiting list.  Please feel free to contact us with any questions you may have concerning Elk Run Braque du Bourbonnais.

We are involved with the Braque du Bourbonnais because we wanted “a bird dog that was different”.  The operative words here are “bird dog”, we hunt our dogs.  The time it takes to properly train bird dogs and the time we commit to hunting does limit our dog numbers.  Consequently, this does limit the number of litters we produce each year.  The trade-off — we only offer puppies that are the progeny of proven hunters.  We are about quality not quantity.

We do believe  in the North America Versatile Hunting Dog Association (NAVHDA) hunt test program.  NAVHDA’s testing program provides an invaluable tool for us and those interested in our puppies an objective, unbiased evaluation of the strength and weaknesses of each of our dogs.  We only offer puppies from hunt test qualified sires and dams.

"Only proven hunters and hunt test qualified sires and dams are incorporated  into our breeding program"

"Our breeding program is exclusively built on a foundation of imported sires and dams out of the "top field dogs in France"

Our breeding program is not built on the simple acquisition of a pair of Bourbonnais.  In contrast, prior to the initiation of our breeding program we first embarked on a six year education process.  Our goal was to strengthen our knowledge of the breed, and then to identify breeders in France committed to breeding the type of dog best suited for the North American foot hunter.  Our objective was to secure imports from the "top" field dogs available in France today.  Our intent was to built a foundation for our breeding program based on the "best" to fulfill our commitment to breed the "best from the best".  In the ensuing years this process has led to our importation of ten exceptional bird dogs, of which seven have been incorporated into our breeding program.

At Elk Run Kennels we are dedicated to the preservation and continuous improvement of the Braque du Bourbonnais as a versatile hunting dog.  Hunting dogs are our passion. We have carefully selected our imported sires and dams to produce puppies that will hunt.

We feel it is imperative to prove the quality of our dogs in the field and hunt tests.   As a result we have built a breeding foundation of quality dogs unmatched in North America including the breed’s first and only Versatile Champion, the breed’s only four Prize I Utility dogs and two Prize II dogs.  We are the only kennels to offer puppies from the a Versatile Champion or Prize I Utility Braque du Bourbonnais.

Our commitment to the integrity of the breed extents to the retention of the international registration by Federation Cynoloque Internationale (F.C.I) on all of our puppies.  In addition, all of are puppies are dual registered with NAVHDA.
